Below, we share our top tips for making the most of an autumn weekend getaway.


FRIDAY

Stay at Castleview Cottage

SATURDAY

9am - Main Street Rutherglen

Waking up in Rutherglen calls for a visit to Valentine's Café, the perfect place to start your day. Just a short walk or drive away, this charming spot serves some of the best coffee in town, with rich, aromatic brews to awaken your senses and set the tone for the day ahead. Whether you enjoy a smooth flat white or a bold espresso, the friendly baristas at Valentine's ensure every cup is crafted to perfection - it’s the ideal stop before exploring Rutherglen’s sights. Before heading back, swing by Rutherglen Butcher or the Rutherglen IGA to pick up essentials for a relaxed BBQ dinner after the days activities.

12pm - Destination Dining at KIN

Take a short walk from your accommodation to All Saints Estate for a memorable lunch at KIN restaurant. As you enter the property, take a moment to admire Elm Tree Drive, a stunning 300-metre avenue lined with majestic 100 year old English Elm trees (Ulmus Procera). In March, the trees are lush and green, with hints of bright yellow appearing in early April, before transforming into brilliant gold by May. At KIN, Executive Chef Jack Cassidy and his team craft a dining experience that celebrates the finest seasonal flavours, featuring locally sourced ingredients, as well as fresh produce from the Estate’s own kitchen garden. Experience a guided wine tasting at the All Saints Estate Cellar Door, where our friendly and knowledgeable team will take you through a selection of our finest wines, sharing insights into their flavours and viticulture. After finding your perfect bottle, relax on the expansive lawns with your loved one, savouring each sip as you take in the colours of the sunset over the historic castle. It's the perfect way to unwind and immerse yourself in the beauty of the estate.

Wander back to Castleview Cottage to kick back and relax, and cook your simple BBQ and while the night away.

 

SUNDAY

9am

Enjoy a light breakfast of cereal and toast, provided as part of your accommodation, then set out on a leisurely walk along the scenic Murray River, starting from Federation Bridge and winding your way towards St Leonards Vineyard.

 11am - St Leonards Vineyard

Tucked away in the Rutherglen Wine Region, St Leonards Vineyard is a true hidden gem, offering a serene escape surrounded by nature. Towering 100-year-old gum trees, a tranquil lagoon along the Murray River, and a rich history woven into the landscape create an unforgettable setting. Upon arrival, visit the St Leonards Vineyard Cellar Door for a guided wine tasting, where you can explore the region’s signature varieties. Sip on the elegance of Cabernet Franc or the cult-favourite Wahgunyah Shiraz, both thriving in the unique sandy soils of the riverbank vineyards.

1pm - Lunch at Bonnie

On your way home, stop for a relaxed lunch at Bonnie, the charming pizzeria with lakeside views at All Saints Estate. The highlight is the hand-stretched pizzas, freshly baked in a brick oven. Each of the eight artisanal pizzas is named after the fourth-generation Brown children, rendering Bonnie a celebration of family, wine, and, of course, delicious pizza.
